You’ve booked your hotel suite or vacation villa at Los Cabos and are eager to experience one of the Baja peninsula’s most exquisite retreats. You’ve bought tickets for your flight. Nearly everything’s ready for a truly memorable holiday. Just one thing remains: arranging transportation from Cabo San Lucas Airport to your final destination at Los Cabos. Cabo San Lucas International Airport is located about 4.5 miles from Los Cabos, so ground transport of some kind is going to be a necessity. You’ll find that you have several choices here. It’s best to choose your means of transportation early, so that this final leg of your trip will be as smooth and seamless as possible. Here are some of the options available.
Some of the hotels at Los Cabos arrange with shuttle companies to pick up their customers at the airport, usually at a discounted price. You can usually find out if your hotel offers this service by accessing their webpage and clicking their “transportation” tab. You should be able to find a list of prices and departure/arrival times there. It may be more convenient to arrange the airport transfer with your hotel, but be aware that you might find lower prices with one of the independent shuttle companies.
Private Shuttle-Bus and Taxi Services
There are a number of these companies. They operate small shuttle-buses (large vans) and cars that carry private parties to the hotels and villas in Cabo San Lucas and nearby San Jose del Cabo, and return them to the airport at the end of their stay. Los Cabos Express, Los Cabos Airport Shuttle, and Cabo San Lucas Tours are just a few of their names; a quick google search will bring up a host of company names, all of which have websites where you can research services and prices and make a reservation, either one-way or round-trip. The reservation drill is very similar in each case. You’ll need to provide a credit card number, and when your passage is booked you’ll be given a confirmation number that you’ll need to give the driver when you board the vehicle. Private shuttles and taxis usually accommodate up to 8 people for one price; be sure to check this information on the website before reserving a place if you are traveling with a large party. The cost of transport isn’t cheap, but it does come with some amenities. The ride takes forty to forty-five minutes, and many services provide free beverages for their passengers as well as the option of a stop at a grocery store for supplies.
Whether you’re booking a hostel-sponsored shuttle or a private vehicle, you’ll need to do so at least 24 hours in advance. You’ll also need to give the company 24-hours’ notice for your return to the airport. All surface transportation at the Cabo San Lucas International Airport is located outside of the terminal.
For more adventurous visitors to Los Cabos, the public bus is an option. Air-conditioned buses leave from Terminal 1 and drive to San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas daily on a regular schedule.
